Discover Summer Swimming in Kiamichi Valley
Potato Hills Beach
Potato Hills Beach isn’t fancy. It’s just easy, familiar, and exactly what a summer day in Southeast Oklahoma should feel like.
By late afternoon, when the sun starts dropping behind the hills and the light turns soft over the lake, nobody is really in a hurry to leave. That’s kind of the point.

If you’re heading out, pack simple: shade, sunscreen, plenty of water, snacks or something for the grill, towels, a trash bag (because you’ll want to leave it just like you found it), and anything you need to stay comfortable for a few hours longer than you planned.
The water is clear, cool, and easy to enjoy whether you’re wading with little ones, floating on a tube, or just sitting in a lawn chair letting the day pass slower than usual.
Potato Hills Beach has what you actually need for a good lake day: restrooms, picnic tables, grills, a playground nearby, and plenty of space to spread out. Most people set up near the water, grill lunch, and rotate between swimming, snacking, and doing absolutely nothing in the best way possible.
It’s the kind of place where you show up with a cooler and no real plan—and suddenly it’s the whole day.
This little stretch of shoreline at Sardis Lake feels like a postcard from simpler days. Rainbow umbrellas dot the sand, flip flops pile up near towels, and you can hear kids laughing over the sound of water lapping the shore.
